Chemical and Toxicological Properties of Emissions from a Light-Duty Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle Fueled with Renewable Natural Gas

چکیده

Biogas consisting primarily of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) can be upgraded to a transportation fuel referred as renewable natural gas (RNG) by removing CO2 other impurities. RNG has energy content comparable fossil compressed (CNG) but with lower life-cycle greenhouse (GHG) emissions. In this study, light-duty cargo van was tested CNG two blends on chassis dynamometer in order compare the toxicity resulting exhaust. Tests for reactive oxygen species (ROS), biomarker expressions (CYP1A1, IL8, COX-2), mutagenicity (Ames) show that exhaust is or than Statistical analysis reveals associations between tailpipe emissions benzene, dibenzofuran, dihydroperoxide dimethyl hexane (the last identification considered tentative/uncertain). Further gas-phase may associated formaldehyde, sulfide, propene, methyl ketene. contained higher concentrations these potentially toxic chemical constituents all current tests. Photochemical aging vehicle did not alter trends. These preliminary results suggest adoption useful strategy reduce intensity fuels without increasing

Experimental Study of Hydrogen Addition Impact on Emissions and Performance of a Natural Gas Fueled Engine

Hydrogen is seen as one of the important energy carriers of the future with potential to reduce local as well as global warming. The main by-product of the combustion of hydrogen in air is water vapor and trace quantities of oxides of nitrogen. An experiment was conducted to study the impact of hydrogen/natural gas blends on performance, thermodynamic efficiency and exhaust gas emissions in ...

Impact of Compressed Natural Gas Fueled Buses on Street Pavements

Federal Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (CAAA) and the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT), together with other state regulations have encouraged or mandated transit systems to use alternative fuels to power bus fleets. Among such fuels, compressed natural gas (CNG) is attractive, although it must be stored in robust, heavy pressurized cylinders, capable of withstanding pressures up to 5,000 psi...

Renewable Natural Gas – Challenges & Opportunities

Background Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is pipeline quality gas that is fully interchangeable with fossil natural gas but is produced from a renewable feedstock and can be used as a 100% substitute for, or blended with, conventional natural gas streams [1]. RNG is an important alternative fuel that can help the State of California meet several GHG and renewable energy targets. As a transportatio...
